Boost Your Rod's
Brakes -Drive Magazine, May 2004. There's no such thing as too much brakes. Too
little-that's another story. How about the ancient drum-and-shoe
brakes on that barn fresh car you saw at the last swap meet? Or, how
about the systems that a lot of rodders put on their rides, which
may not be much better than Flintstone brakes. Power Brake Service
Company has the
solution to the problem of inadequate brakes. They offer Bosch Hydro
Boost power brake boosters, which they
can combine
with a dual master cylinder in a package that gives you some real
stopping power. Along with their car-specific booster/master
cylinder combos (like their packagers for '65 - '66 Mustangs,
'67-'81 GM A/F-body cars and the '68-'79 Nova), they also offer the
parts to put a Hydro Boost booster on a street rod. That way you do
away with the commonly used (but inadequate) seven-inch power brake
booster. PBSC's Bob Sweeting says, "What we do for street rods is
provide a bracket and treaded rod for the Hydro Boost to become a
direct replacement for that seven-inch booster." Sweeting also says
that they'll also provide a stainless braided hose kit that you can
cut to length and install yourself, or your local brake shop can put
it in. It's your choice--go with the Hydro Boost set-up from
Power Brake Service
Company, or keep your
old booster and stock up on replacement sheet
metal. |
